Since the inception of the establishment of Khunta +2 Mahavidyalaya in the year 1991-92 , the need of a Degree College for spread of Higher Education is highly essential in this locality . The year 1993-94 brought a new light in the history of Higher Education in the Tribal populated Khunta Block in the District of Mayurbhanj . In this year some intellectuals immensely felt the necessity of establishing a Degree College in this Tribal Area to promote Higher Education . However , the college took birth at Khunta High School’s vocational building on 6th September 1993 by the permission of Govt . of Odisha with 64 seats in Arts stream. It is the first and only Degree College of this Block . The donation and subscription of the public from this locality enriches this institution year after year . In the year 2003-04 the seats of this college increased from 64 to 96 and later it increased up to 128 and finally 128 to 196 by the year 2015-16 . Further , Govt. has approved Honors seat in History , Political Science , Education , Odia , Sanskrit and Economics. In addition to this Science Stream was also opened in the year 2006-07 with 64 seats i.e. PCM & CBZ 32 seats each. Later it is increased up to 96 seats with Honors in Botany , Chemistry , Mathematics , Physics and Zoology.
The Department of Higher Education Odisha , Utkal University and North Odisha University have granted recognition / affiliation to this institution permanently . The college has owned land at remote place for which diversion to the present location is being made . The college is situated at the side of NH 19 right towards Udala and right to Similipal Tiger Reserve .
The Institution got permanent recognition / affiliation to a limited seat and has been included 2(f) and 12(B) under UGC during the year 2011-12 . Some of seats in both Arts and Science stream have not been granted permanent recognition . Honours in Sanskrit from 16 to 24 in Arts stream & Honours in Zoology from 16 to 32 in Science Stream.
For last 30 years the college has been marching towards the fulfilment of aims and aspiration of the institution basically the spread of Higher Education among the Tribal populated locality.
During the 12th plan period of UGC assistants the larger number of books and equipment have been purchased for the library . The library is having around 12309 numbers of books and journals . The college at present provides accommodations for lecture halls , staff common room , student common room , library , reading room , laboratory , computer lab, principal chamber , administrative building , guest house , canteen and conference hall but it is not sufficient.

A small burning Diya / lamp stands for good luck , good ness , purity and power . It ensures that it removes the greed jealousy , hatred and dirt of human mind and it purifies the soul.
The two peacocks are balancing each side which shows the guardianship and also the integrity and freedom . It also symbolizes the name of the pious soil, Mayurbhanj.
